Weaving Meaning in Uncertain Times

Have you ever let go of the need for a perfect outcome—to let your creative juices flow just to see what might emerge? If you doubt your creative ability let me assure you it is there within you waiting for space to breathe.

This freedom is exactly what I gave myself during a very magical experience during my first artist residency at South Porch in Summerville, SC. Instead of

focusing on production, I gave myself permission to explore. To my surprise, I completed two pieces in just five days—works that normally might take weeks or months due to my own self-doubt.

These two works emerged from reflecting on the spider's web—symbols of creation, connection, and the ongoing process of growth. In these uncertain times, I find myself asking:

What are we weaving into the world?

These works began on “No Kings” protest day—a moment that added even more meaning and context to the layers, colors, and textures that emerged. They carry the energy of resistance, reflection, and quiet or maybe not so quiet transformation.

I’m excited to share them with you. I’d love to hear what they evoke for you.

Below is a glimpse into how these pieces came to life, layer by layer.

With Love,

Shay

The Process

I worked on both pieces at once. Panel A is "Slow is the New Fast" and Panel B, "In the Waves of Change, We Find Out Who We Truly Are."
